Consultation has concluded

The Township of Huron-Kinloss wants to hear from you! What do want to see 'enhanced' at the Point Clark Beach? We want to hear all your great ideas, so don't hold back!

The Economic Development Department, in accordance with the Huron-Kinloss Community Sustainability and Strategic Plan ( Action item V1.3; "work with community partners to beautify the lakefront"), has been investigating opportunities to enhance the Point Clark area for residents and tourists.
Through our research we investigated a 3D sign and renovations to the Point Clark Beach Washrooms.

A design concept for the 3D sign was developed and circulated to service organizations in Point Clark requesting feedback. We received so many fantastic suggestions and ideas that we decided to investigate them further.

Please share your ideas about how we can enhance the Point Clark beach area for residents and visitors. Share stories of your great memories at the beach and lighthouse with us. Drop a pin on the map and tell us how we can improve that area or what you love about that area.

We can't wait to embark in this discussion with our residents and visitors!

We've received some questions and comments about phragmites south of the Lighthouse and we wanted to provide some information about what we do for phragmites control.

    Answer:

Yes, there are still small amounts of Phragmites south of the Lighthouse to Amberley Beach; however, the amount now is a small fraction of the amount of Phragmites that was present from 2005 to 2011 (almost 15 acres south of the lighthouse). The Township of Huron-Kinloss sprayed the phragmites when the water level was low (2009-2012) and eliminated much of the phragmites. Furthermore, the rise of the lake levels in 2015 has assisted in the elimination of phragmites along the shoreline. The Township still does occasional spot spraying along the lakeshore for Phragmites and other invasive species.

January 2nd 2019 will be the last day to provide feedback on the new Point Clark Washroom Design as well as provide ideas and areas of improvement for the Point Clark Beach Enhancements Project. The project will be officially closed for feedback on January 3rd 2019.

We are required to work within the original footprint of the building due to the septic system and the property lines; however, we have gone back to the drawing board to include two family/gender neutral accessible washrooms and an outdoor foot wash station.

Please provide your feedback in the comments section, on the map or in the Share Your Ideas Tool before January 3rd 2019.
