Drain in field

The Township of Huron-Kinloss would like to provide an update to inform residents about the status of the Bruce Beach Municipal Drain.

Phase 1 is complete and the drainage system is now in place and functioning as intended. The flooding issues that primarily led to the project have been significantly mitigated.

The project was divided into phases to prioritize the most urgent drainage problems. Phase 1 focused on addressing those problems. With that work now complete, the Township is preparing to move forward with Phase 2.

Phase 2 will establish a permanent outlet to Lake Huron for the drain constructed under Phase 1, and address additional drainage concerns identified by a second petition. A preliminary design was presented to the public in early 2022 to gather input. The feedback has been reviewed and is being incorporated into the final design. Environmental approvals have been obtained from both the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) and in principle for the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA).

The Township will be re-engaging with the community by presenting updated design information and findings at a second public meeting. Residents will have the opportunity to provide additional feedback. No final report will be filed without further public consultation.

Details about the public meeting will be shared once confirmed.
