Where have all the ash trees gone?
Consultation has concluded
Since 2010, the Township of Huron-Kinloss has been monitoring the Emerald Ash Borer migration and the affect the bug has on our ash trees. First signs of the Emerald Ash Borer were discovered in Lucknow in 2010, followed by Ripley and Point Clark in 2011.
The Township of Huron-Kinloss is attempting to act proactively to ensure the Emerald Ash Borer and the affected ash trees do not cause any damage to adjacent properties or create an unsafe environment for residents.
The Community Services Department is using the Have Your Say HK website to keep residents informed and updated with the project progress, ongoing details, and any changes. Have Your Say HK will provide a platform for any concerns with the project to be heard, and ask questions.

Tree Planting on Sunday May 5th, 2019 at 1 pm
Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this linkThe Ripley 4-H Nature Club will be planting trees on Sunday May 5th, starting at 1 pm. An estimated 150 seedling trees will be planted including White Spruce, and White Pine. The trees will be planted throughout the slope in areas where accessible. We understand there are many tree tops / branches still on the slope, and the 4-H club will plant around them.
We appreciate everyone's understanding leaving the trees tops in place, due to the safety hazard to attempt the removal was too great. In time these trees will eventually decompose, but for now the tree branches will provide excellent cover for some of natures smaller animals.
I would also like to thank the Ripley 4-H club for there participation in the project!

Tree Planting coming soon!
Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this linkComing soon near the end of April...The Community Services Department will be contracting the planting of 150 seedling trees on the Bluff between Boiler Beach and Park Street on the Algonquin Bluff. Trees will be a mixed variety of seedling White Pine, Spruce, and Cedar. Hopefully a nice spring with the right amount of moisture will provide them with a good start! There are quite a few trees that have been cut on the Algonquin Bluff between Park Street and Boiler Beach Road that have been laid down on the bluff area. The contractor removed as many trees and tops as possible that were safe to do so. The remaining trees may be unsightly right now, but within time these trees will break down, decompose, and between the trees planted, and the newly germinating maples as part of a natural forest succession will provide a natural forest cover in the future.
