Deer Run Nature Trail Closure

Deer Run Nature Trail Ash Tree Project (DRNT ATP)

Closure Notification

If you have received this correspondence then you may be affected by the Deer Run Nature Trail Ash Tree Project (DRNT ATP). The DRNT ATP is a result of the Emerald Ash Borer infestation which has caused the death of thousands of ash trees in Huron-Kinloss. The Township of Huron-Kinloss has now authorized Savage Bros. Ltd as the contractor to remove over 160 ash trees. All wood over 5 inches in diameter will be removed with some remaining top branches being shredded by another contracting company. (See map attached)

The trees are being removed due to the safety concerns regarding falling trees or tree limbs. A number of high risk trees will be removed immediately, and the balance of the removal work will be completed by September 1st, 2019. During this time, the Deer Run Nature Trail will be closed to the public. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The Township will be completing a tree planting program in the Deer Run Nature Trail either in the Fall of 2019 or the Spring of 2020.

In order to keep residents informed of the progress of the DRNT ATP, we have established a communications website called “Have Your Say H-K”. Please visit https://www.haveyoursayhk.ca/ for more information.

The website has a subscription component available and will provide updates of the work taking place from June 2019 until September 2019. Please subscribe to the “Have Your Say H-K” website to receive automatic email updates on this project as they are posted by Municipal staff.

The website will provide residents an opportunity to ask questions, or view frequently asked questions about the project. The Deer Run Nature Trail will be closed from June 2019 – September 2019 while the work is in progress, so please be aware, patient, and respectful of the contractors and the work being completed.

The objective of the website is to keep the Huron-Kinloss residents in the neighbourhood up to date on the project, and provide an opportunity for questions, answers, comments, and project updates.

Thank-you in advance for your cooperation, and patience. Don’t forget to register with “Have Your Say H-K” https://www.haveyoursayhk.ca/ to stay informed about the progress of this project or other projects that may be of interest.

Sincerely

Mike Fair
